Sunday HPP Investigators Program
The investigators of the HUPO Human Proteome Project will hold their annual workshops to assess and accelerate progress on the major components of the Project: Chromosome-centric HPP teams (C-HPP), Biology and Disease-based HPP teams (B/D-HPP), and the Resource Pillars for Antibody Profiling, Mass Spectrometry, Knowledge bases/Bioinformatics, and Pathology. Specific foci are identification of PE2,3,4 Missing Proteins, generation of functional annotations for uncharacterized uPE1 proteins, and connecting C-HPP and B/D-HPP teams. We aim to complete the “protein parts list” (C-HPP), to stimulate applications of targeted proteomics to organ-specific biological studies (B/D-HPP), and to address many bioinformatics and antibody profiling challenges, as well as the “dark (uncovered) proteome”.
This meeting is open to all Congress registrants; all are welcome.
There is a USD $60 fee to attend the Sunday workshop to defray the catering costs. You can add the workshop ticket via your Congress registration.

The following list of agenda was extracted from the minutes of an C-HPP EC discussion (in EuPA, Santiago, 6/16/2018) and Co-chairs’ conference calls (2018/3-5). Each agenda is given with a brief background for better understanding and clarity.
3. Agenda
Given that the C-HPP’s Phase I is closing this year (2012.9-2018.9), at the Santiago C-HPP workshop, Young-Ki Paik proposed a leadership rotation plan in which Chris Overall (new term: 2019-2021) would be nominated and elected as Chair while Lydie Lane (2018-2020) and Young-Ki Paik (2019-2021) would remain as Co-Chairs.
- Discussion & Decision:
At the Dublin-HUPO 2017 Phase II of the C-HPP was approved and will run from 2018.9 to 2021.9. The main scientific missions of C-HPP are focused on identification, annotation, curation and now functional annotation of the human proteome. The focus shifts now to identification of the remaining 10% of the human proteome using a variety of new team approaches with more connection to the pillars and BD. The official uPE1 functionalization project is well and truly up and running and reveals the need to expand collaborations outside HUPO e.g., structural biology, germ cells, biobanks, CRISPR/cas9 etc. Progress will be discussed at the 21st C-HPP Workshop in St. Malo (5/12-14, 2019, Organized by Charles Pineau).
In addition, more aggressive approaches are sought to identify missing proteins using rare tissue samples or rare physiologically conditioned samples.
Taken together, this sets the stage for adoption of new strategies and approaches within the C-HPP to reorientate active teams for Phase II. Discussion of this important strategic plan will continue from the very fruitful discussions at EuPA, Santiago 2018.
